How do we go about a redefinition of education,
should ICT Education be about ICTs as a change agent or as a service? should it be just about
applications of ICTs to real life situations (such as educating potential teachers only about using spreadsheet applications for grading potential students) or should it be about re-modelling the whole
educational system after an ICT-enhanced masterpiece (using software to create new knowledge, building infostructures e.g. collaboratories, adoption of open and independent learning philosophies etc)?
African HEIs cautiously manage “change to minimize stepping on toes and to keep most people on the team”,
but the need for a 21st century education oversteps these boundaries and calls for urgent action to catch up
with innovations in the learning process.
